Area middle and high school students, participating in the MusicMakers2U Project, will perform a special concert with their donated instruments on May 4.

KPLC-TV reports, local band director and Grammy Award nominee, Mickey Smith is hoping to raise much need funds for the MusicMakers2U Project.    Smith teaches band at Maplewood Elementary in Sulphur, La. and about a year ago, formed the MusicMuakers2U Project.  The program is completely non-profit, with the sole purpose of placing donated instruments into the hands of students, who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford one.

Through this initiative, more than 200 students have had an opportunity to own an instrument of their very own.  This year come out and enjoy a group of 30 or more students and local artists performing at the 2nd annual MusicMakers2U benefit concert.

It's "An Evening With MusicMakers", Sunday May 3 at Tritico Theatre on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles This special concert will not only be performed by recipients of the MusicMakers2U Project, but with instruments they've received through the program.  It all begins at 5 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, followed by the concert at 6 p.m.
