This week’s “Don’s Automotive Group Athlete Of The Week” is Blaine Wright. He is a sophomore at Sulphur High, and was nominated by his aunt, Tara Kickel, and his mother, Debbie Coleman Wright.

When I saw the Facebook post with the video of him doing some agility training with Athletic Republic in Sulphur - who know how to get our kids right when it comes to being ready for any sports - it caught me off guard. First of all, Blaine had the agility of a wolf during his training, and after speaking with his mother Debbie, I can see why. Check out the impressive footwork from this young superstar.

While Blaine was a little preoccupied with school and being a star multi sports player, I actually had a conversation with Debbie to find out more about her son so that we could get a little more familiar with him.

Debbie described Blaine as being rather shy and quiet, but a very intelligent young man when it comes to academics. He finished out last year with a 3.7 GPA, and has been involved in sports since he was 5 years old. He has 2 brothers and 1 sister, and is a twin to his brother Mason. He plays Strong Safety during football season with Sulphur High, and participates in Varsity Wrestling during the off season. And if that's not enough, he also does CrossFit when he has the time.

While speaking with Debbie, you could hear the excitement in her voice as she spoke of Blaine and his accomplishments as any parent would, but she made sure to mention that he is a very good kid with a rather bright future. Since Blaine is a sophomore this year, he is still undecided about his college choices or whether he would like to pursue football or wrestling past high school, but I am sure that whatever path he chooses, it will be a successful journey.

While Blaine admires and appreciates all of the coaches and teachers who have been a part of his life, he really has a great connection with his wrestling coach, Jean Paul Duhon, who pushes him to the limit when it comes down to it. It just goes to show that our kids are watching us, and being influential to them comes with the job of being an adult.

Blaine has a varsity game this Friday, September 22nd, against Sam Houston. The game will be played at Matt Walker stadium. If you are able to go out and support our young men, please make plans to attend. I would like to thank Tara for nominating Blaine, and Debbie for helping us find out a little more about him.

Blaine, congratulations on being this week’s “Don’s Automotive Group Athlete Of The Week”!
