5 Porch Light Colors You Will See In Louisiana
Have you ever driven by a house and seen their porch lit up with a red, blue, or colorful light bulb? Me too! So, I looked it up. I figured each color represented something significant according to House Digest, that's about the size of it. I just didn't know what.
After this, the next time you see a porch lit up in one of these fabulous colors, you'll know what each one of them means as well. There are so many different styles of lightbulbs these days. There's soft white, warm, sunlight, and bright and that's the non-color ones. They even have porch LED lights that flicker like a natural gas flame!
The article in House Digest broke the color code down on the porch lights and now that I know what's going on, I plan to join the light-up-your-porch crusade. It's for a great cause and it shows community unity. It also looks pretty darn cool, when everyone does it! Here are 5 Porch Light Colors You Will See In Louisiana and what they mean.
BLUE PORCH LIGHT
Represent a couple of things. Most people understand a blue porch light is a show of respect for law enforcement. The month of April was declared Autism Awareness Month and since 2007 April 2 was designated World Autism Awareness Day. As part of their awareness campaign Autism Speaks launched the, "Light It Up Blue." An initiative shining a light on Autism to advance global awareness.
RED PORCH LIGHT
In February some neighborhood porch lights might be red, but it doesn't have with Valentine's Day. February is American Heart Month. All month long the American Heart Association reminds people, especially women to take care of their heart by making healthy food choices and exercising. It's also a time when everyone is advised to check on their cardiovascular health.
GREEN PORCH LIGHT
A green porch light can also be used to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, which is March 17. Veterans Day is November 11. Usually, if you see a green light porch light they are showing support for our military Veterans. Neighbors may start lighting up their porches ahead of the holiday towards the end of October and keep them shining through November 11.
PINK PORCH LIGHT
Pink is synonymous with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Just like pink ribbons, t-shirts, and athletes wear pink socks, hats, and uniforms pink lightbulbs are a great way to draw attention to the ongoing fight against the disease. This October, go pink and light up your porch in memory of those we've lost and in support of breast cancer survivors in your community.
PURPLE PORCH LIGHT
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is October and the third Thursday of the month is nationally known as, Purple Thursday. Join the fight for tougher laws and legislation in your city and state to help eliminate abuse. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to educate and advocate for healthy relationships and victims.
There you have it! Shine your porch lights in Louisiana and show your support for one or all of these important initiatives.
