6ix9ine’s Lawyer Thinks U.S. Attorney’s Office Gave Rapper Excessive Charges in Racketeering Arrest
The career of 6ix9ine, one that was imperiled from its very beginning, is once again in a precarious position. This past Sunday (Nov. 18), federal agents arrested the rapper born Daniel Hernandez and multiple members of his reputed Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang, and now the rapper, who'd recently dodged jail time for a probation violation in relation to his sexual misconduct case, is facing six federal charges and anywhere from 32 years to life in prison.
While Tekashi is looking at some serious charges, his lawyer Lance Lazzaro doesn't believe the case is insurmountable. Speaking with XXL earlier today, the Brooklyn-based attorney claims that the federal charges leveled against the rapper are excessive, and that they will eventually be dismissed.
"I believe that the charges against him is an over-charge by the U.S. Attorney's Office and that when the facts come out I am confident that the charges will be dismissed as it relates to Daniel Hernandez Tekashi 6ix9ine," Lazzaro says.
Tekashi and his reputed fellow Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods members Jamel Jones (Mel Murda), Kifano Jordan (Shottie), Jensel Butler (Ish), Fuguan Lovick (Fu Banga) and Faheem Walter (Crippy) are being charged with actively participating in various acts of racketeering and conspiracy while in possession of firearms.
Among the charges leveled against specific Tekashi are allegations that he took part in an armed robbery this past April, that he had used and brandished firearms that were used in connection to racketeering and conspiracy and with agreeing to have someone who'd "disrespected" Nine Trey shot. That particular instance reportedly led to an innocent bystander being shot in the foot.
For his part, Lazzaro dismisses the notion that Tekashi had any role in any of those happenings. "I don't believe that [6ix9ine] participated in any of the three instances that they're referring to," he tells XXL before claiming that Tekashi wasn't in the city on the day one particular shooting took place.
"[6ix9ine was] not even in the state of New York [for] the July 16 incident," Lazzaro says. "Yet he's being charged with a shooting when he wasn't even in the state of New York. And you can't be guilty of a crime if you're not present."
These charges arrive after 6ix9ine had avoided jail time for a variety of offenses in preceding months. Most recently, he struck a plea deal in an officer assault case. The terms of the deal that dictated Tekashi had to stay out of trouble for a year, or be faced with jail time. Now, the 22-year-old is facing six federal charges.
The charges leveled against Tekashi are as follows: 20 years in prison for racketeering conspiracy; 25 years to life in prison for using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to, or possessions a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence which was discharged; violent crime in aid of racketeering (April 3, 2018); three years for violent crime in aid of racketeering (April 3, 2018); seven years to life for using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to, or possessing a firearm in furtherance of, a crime of violence, which was brandished; three years for Violent crime in aid of racketeering (July 16, 2018).
Tekashi and his associates were scheduled to return to court today.
