The investigation into a Baton Rouge pawn shop robbery on Saturday has yielded some very chilling results. Authorities with the Baton Rouge Police Department have reason to believe the robbery was part of a conspiracy to get weapons to be used against Baton Rouge police officers.

It is believed that four suspects unlawfully entered the business intent on stealing weapons. One of the four suspects was captured and arrested at the scene by Baton Rouge Police. During interrogation of that suspect officers learned of the bigger plot.

We learned from that suspect that was taken into custody that the reason the burglary was being done was to harm police officers,

Those are the comments of Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie as made to the Louisiana Radio Network.

Police later arrested two other suspects in connection with the case. Another suspect was arrested on charges of purchasing a stolen firearm. Through these arrests police have recovered some of the weapons that were taken during the crime.

Investigators are working together to apprehend the rest of the suspects in this case. Of the 8 actual firearms that were taken, 6 have been recovered, and there’s still two at large.

The Chief explained that this very credible threat was the reason that Baton Rouge Police showed up at Sunday's protest in SWAT gear.

We have been questioned repeatedly over the last several days about our show of force and why we had the tactics that we had. Well this is the reason, because we had credible threats against the lives of law enforcement in this city.

Chief Dabadie explained that he and his officers can not take anything for granted in light of recent events in which law enforcement officers were gunned down in Dallas.
