Behind on Child Support? You Might Not Get a Stimulus Check
If you’re one of the folks who are behind on child support payments, you might not get your stimulus check in the mail. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley a Republican senator who heads the federal finance committee wrote on his website that people who owe money for child support won't see a stimulus check.
If you owe back taxes or money to a federal or state agency you're safe and will receive a stimulus check. “The bill turns off nearly all administrative offsets that ordinarily may reduce tax refunds for individuals who have past tax debts, or who are behind on other payments to federal or state governments, including student loan payments,”
According to Grassley's website “The only administrative offset that will be enforced applies to those who have past due child support payments that the states have reported to the Treasury Department.” If you're hoping for that stimulus check and behind on providing for your children, don't count on it.
