Best Songs of the Week Featuring Future, Meek Mill and More

June was a great month for huge rap releases, and it seems like July is starting off on the same foot. There are bangers coming from every corner of the map; new music that is sure to soundtrack all of the crazy nights ahead. Everyone in hip-hop has come out to compete this summer, with the real winners being the fans. Catch up on all the songs you need to know with this week's edition of XXL's best songs of the week.

No one saw a new Future tape coming so soon, but he felt like feeding the streets and everyone should be thankful. His latest project is BeastMode 2, the sequel to the legendary tape from his career-revitalizing three-peat. One of the bigger records on BeastMode 2 is "31 Days," where Future details his trysts with the ladies. The song thumps, to keep it simple.

Future wasn't the only big-time rapper with a surprise drop. Meek Mill joined the fray with his EP, the aptly-titled Legends of the Summer. Meek has had monster singles for multiple summers; "Millidelphia" featuring Swizz Beatz might be the next one. The track is all energy, a fitting comeback for Meek after the tumultuous year he's had.

This week also saw two 2018 XXL Freshmen dropping strong singles. BlocBoy JB, the dance machine, freed his new song "Woah" through its video, where he breaks out some new moves and shreds the second verse. Lil Pump dropped "Drug Addicts," complete with a video where he and Charlie Sheen run around a hospital. Pump, the self-professed Harverd Dropout, brags that he makes more money than his teachers.

With that said, some Freshmen from the past are doing their thing, too. B.o.B (who made the Freshman cover in 2009) recruits fellow ATLien Waka Flocka Flame and Amara La Negra for "Elbows," an upbeat club track from Bobby Ray's new album, Naga. Lil Yachty, who was on the 2016 XXL Freshman Cover, teams up with hip-hop power couple Cardi B and Offset for the raucous "Who Want the Smoke?" The track also features BlocBoy JB ad-libs, making everything come full circle.

These next two selections blend rap with other genres, with impressive results. Azealia Banks dropped her new single, "Treasure Island," this week, which she's been teasing for a while. The song is a mix of upbeat dance vibes and bars, then closes out with a pure R&B hook where Azealia shows off her vocal chops. Meanwhile, Ella Mai dropped the remix to her meteoric R&B hit "Boo'd Up," featuring verses from two of hip-hop's biggest modern stars: Quavo and Nicki Minaj. The two rappers fit well here, which will surely extend the life of a song that is already huge.

Wrapping up this week's list are two artists from opposite coasts, with the same addiction to balling. New York's Young M.A arrives with her low-key single "PettyWap," rife with brags about everything from blowing racks on clothes to an entire verse about taking someone else's girlfriend. Slimmy B of Vallejo,Calif. collective SOB x RBE can surely relate, if you use his new track "Free Theze," off his new tape, Feel My Pain, as evidence. Slimmy spitting, "I just spent three G's on like three jeans" is nothing but motivation.
