Big Boy Chill Discovered a Snake in the Hallway at the Radio Station and He’s Decided to Keep It, Weirdo
What do you do when there’s a small snake in the hallway at your job? Other than scare the heck out of everyone in the front office, you capture it and make it your pet. Well, that’s the decision I’ve made for the moment. Don’t judge me, it’s kinda cute. Well, it won’t be cute if I have any dreams about snakes this week, then it has to go.
My co-workers suggested chopping its head off. Don’t get me wrong, initially I was going to chop him up with the shovel our fearless leader purchased the last time there was a snake on the premises. [Sidebar: It was a very venomous Cottonmouth, so it had to go. Death by axe. Thanks George!] Though I am totally judging their “snake shovel” that sits in the west stairwell of TSM Lake Charles, it came in handy for what I thought was potentially a venomous snake. Ok, who am I kidding? I still don’t know if the snake is venomous, or not. Whose idea was it to build the radio station near swamp and wetlands in the first place? Genius [Insert sarcastic tone].
From several posts across three of our Facebook fan pages the snake has been identified as a Copperhead, Ground Rattler, and someone even said a Brown Spotted Cobra. Come on, seriously sir, a Cobra? Log off now, please.
The roughly 8 inch snake was mostly identified as a corn snake or rat snake. Both snakes are considered non venomous, and harmless, or as some people couldn’t help but add “They make good pets!” You people are weird, you know? I guess I’m weird too, because he’s now become my desk pet. That’s right, never do I have to worry about anyone coming into my office for anything. I share an office with Gina Cook, so it’s a chance she might evict us both now.
I plan on taking the little snake to the LSU Agriculture Center in Lake Charles on next week to determine what it is for sure. If he’s in the clear and poses no threat, he might just become a permanent fixture on my desk, so beware. Stay posted for the update, and you can bet on it! Hopefully the update doesn’t involve another snake, ugh.
