Bobby Shmurda is a loyal friend. The Brooklyn rapper took a harsher plea deal in his criminal case so Rowdy Rebel could serve less time in prison. Shmurda said he took a deal for a seven year sentence on murder conspiracy charges to allow Rebel to get the same deal.

"I did it for Rowdy. They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12," Shumurda said in an new interview. "They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs."

Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel and fellow defendant Nicholas McCoy accepted the plea deal last Friday (Sept. 9). Shmurda was facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder in addition to several weapons and drug charges.

The rapper's trial prospects seemed grim after two members of his GS9 collective received lengthy sentences. Rashid “Rasha” Derissant was sentenced to just over 98 years in prison. Alex “A-Rod” Crandon was hit with 53-year prison sentence.

The plea deal prevents Bobby Shmurda from appealing. That was important for the prosecution as Shmurda has maintained that he was falsely arrested since no guns were found on him.

"There just doing a bunch of dirty things, that’s why I feel like they’re dragging it out so long,” Shmurda told XXL earlier this year. “I looked at my case from back to front and they have yet to come up with any evidence to stick on me. They’re just trying to paint a picture of me because of the people I’m associated with, like they’re trying to have me on some guilty by association. But there’s no conspiracy of murder, all these gun charges, there were no guns found on me, none of my DNA is on these guns. They’re violating my constitutional rights, my civil rights."

Bobby Shmurda is already credited with serving two years of his seven year sentence. His lawyer Alex Spiro believes the Shmoney dance creator could be released in three and half years.
