The remnants of the coronavirus pandemic might shape the fall school year into a schedule that has never been seen before in SWLA.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board recently sent out a survey to parents asking them which type of new school schedule they would want for the upcoming fall classes.

Here are the different options:

  1. Two days per week at school with alternating Fridays (1/2 students on Monday/Wednesday and 1/2 students on Tuesday/Thursday, with alternating Fridays and supplemental on-line learning throughout the week)
  2. Five full days with alternating weeks
  3. Two days per week at school with 1 day online (1/2 students on Monday/Wednesday and 1/2 students on Tuesday/Thursday, Friday (all online)
  4. Two days per week with longer days and off on Friday

There is currently no official statement regarding what classes will look like in August here in SWLA, but CPSB is starting the conversation. Right now, they're weighing out all the options on how students will return to school if the coronavirus pandemic is still active in SWLA.

Calcasieu Parish School Board Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus told KPLC that if it was up to the parish, they would resume regular class schedules in August. However, he does realize that some students and parents might not be comfortable with doing that, so CPSB is working with teachers on virtual lessons that can be done at home.

Currently, the school board is acquiring sanitizer stations and non-contact thermometers to give out to schools.

The survey is not intended to be a final vote on the plans. It's for the purposes of gauging what parents would be comfortable with and getting their input.

Parents have until June 10 to respond to the survey. If you're a parent and don't receive one in the next few days, send an email to info@cpsb.org.
