Last year, the City of Lake Charles Community and Development announced that it would soon offer federally-funded assistance in the form of forgivable loans to homeowners within city limits, whose property sustained damage from Hurricanes Laura, Delta in 2020 or the May 2021 flood. Applications are being accepted now through Thursday, May 26, 2022.

It's all part of the city's Major Homeowner Rehabilitation Program, which is providing funding for home repairs to low to moderate households. Also eligible for this program are landlords who are willing to rent their property to households with low to moderate incomes. Residents may apply online now through Thursday, May 26, 2022, at www.lchrrp.com. Residents can also apply in person at the Lake Charles HRRP Assistance Center located, at 801 E. School Street next to Henry Heights Middle School. If you already applied, the Director of Community Development Mark Tizano, said homeowners will be contacted by a caseworker from the program soon.
