CNN Announcement: Chris Cuomo Has Been “Terminated”

CNN Worldwide president, Jeff Zucker said Saturday that longtime anchor Chris Cuomo has been "terminated effective immediately." The shocking announcement comes as an outside law firm retained by the network, concluded it's findings. The firm was hired to look into info on how the popular anchor allegedly helped his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was being accused of sexual harassment..

On Tuesday this week, the TV network suspended Cuomo "indefinitely." However, producers and staffers of the highly rated "Cuomo Prime Time" will keep their jobs.
Michael Smerconish, who regularly sits in for Cuomo's regular substitute, will apparently be a permanent host for the show. CNN spokesman said in a statement:

"Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately."

The network continued, "While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate."

The CNN spokesperson declined to share any "additional information" concerning what the law firms discovery. Shortly after losing his job, Chris Cuomo also released a statement of his own. Obviously devastated, the former news anchor said:

"This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother. So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN's #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work."

Long story short, the law firm information exposed texts and documents pointing to a serious breach of CNN standards. CNN reported Tuesday evening after the initial suspension,

"When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother's staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly," the network stated. "But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second." Yet the added. "these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation."

By Saturday afternoon, the 51-year news anchor was notified of his termination.
