Diddy Delivers Moving Eulogy at Kim Porter’s Funeral
Diddy had the tough task of burying the mother of his children, Kim Porter, on Saturday (Nov. 24), and the even tougher task of standing before a congregation during the somber moment and giving a eulogy. The music mogul did well, despite the circumstances, delivering a heartfelt eulogy at the packed homegoing service.
Audio of Diddy's eulogy was obtained by TMZ on Sunday (Nov. 25). According to the site, Diddy's speech lasted 15 minutes, of which they were able to get about a third of.
"Anybody knows Kim, she just like a person you vibe with, you know?" Diddy says in the audio. "Like I can't put our relationship in a certain box. She always told me, seriously, she thought God sent me here, sent her here to help me out. I'd be like, 'Girl, what you talkin' 'bout?' I didn't really understand, like, how to love. We went through some circumstances with my family, we didn't have a big family and all that. She just really started breaking down the exterior in me and the shell that I put up."
He added, "As time went on our relationship took so many changes from being boyfriend and girlfriend, to being lovers, to being best friends. To being just straight up homies, like, someone you know you can count on. Somebody that has your back, you have their back."
Combs was able to keep his composure during the entire eulogy and pledged to always be there for the couple's children. Eulogies were also delivered by Mary J. Blige, Dallas Austin, Bishop Noel Jones and Porter's son Quincy Brown.
Porter was laid to rest in a golden casket next her mother in Columbus, Ga. Over 1,000 people were in attendance. Rappers like Missy Elliott, Fat Joe, Lil' Kim and others were on hand, while Faith Evans performed "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and Yolanda Adams sang "Just a Prayer Away" during the ceremony.
Porter died on Nov. 15 after reportedly succumbing to a cardiac arrest at the age of 47.
Porter's families released a joint statement on the model's passing. “God broke the mold when he made Kim. There was truly no other woman like her,” it reads. “Although her time here on earth was far too short, she lived a life full of purpose and meaning. She was a loving mother and devoted friend. She was the epitome of kindness and grace. There wasn’t a person she met [whose] soul she did not touch. Kim was the type of woman who changed lives for the better.”
