There's no doubt an uncomfortable or worn out mattress can greatly affect your sleep cycle. It could also make your body and muscles sore. However, that's not the only thing that could be keeping you up at night. Here are some important tips that may be just what you need to finally get a good night's sleep.

1.) Put that phone down. You'd be surprised how much time can go by as you scroll the pages of social media. Before you know it, you've been up all night. There are real health drawbacks to staying on the phone constantly, especially at night. Believe it or not, the blue light from the screen suppresses the body's production of melatonin.

2.) Your pillow could be the problem. When was the last time you bought a new one? You'd be surprised by the difference a memory form or gel-infused pillow could make. You may have to spend a little more money, but if deep sleep is the reward, it'll be worth it. There are other benefits to having a good pillow, as it also supports your neck and spine.

3.) Use breathable sheets. If you get hot at night, your sheets could be the reason. If you haven't bought a new set in a while, you may want to make the investment. In the last decade or more, sheets now come in fabrics much like sports or workout cloths. The latest materials wick away moisture and keep you cool all night. Being hot throws off your sleep cycle, so cooling sheets are highly recommended by the National Sleep Foundation.

4.) Take a shower or bath before you go to bed. The warm water is a relaxing remedy to a long day and is a well known method to getting quality sleep. Warm water actually lowers your body temperature, which can help induce a better nights sleep.

5.) Design your bedroom for sleep. Believe it or not, the color of your walls and bedroom design can affect your sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, using warm and appealing colors fosters a sense of calm and promotes sleep. If the ambience of your room is relaxing, you'll be more apt to relax and fall asleep easier.
