Habitat for Humanity is currently looking for volunteers to help complete a home for Mr. Thomas Granger.  Mr. Granger is a retired and now homeless, disabled police officer whom was recently approved for a home to be built through Habitat.  Volunteers are needed to help Habitat complete the home, so that he can move in just in time for Christmas or New Years.  Items needed to be finished include the flooring, some base boards, corking and painting; hang the doors along with a little touch up work around the house.

The mission of Habitat for Humanity:
Seeking to put God’s Love into action, Habitat brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.  “Build a world where everyone has a decent place to live”.

Habitat builds or rehabilitates safe, affordable houses, but none of this could be possible without the help of volunteer’ labor and tax-deductible donations, various material and of course time, from the good people of SWLA.  These homes are not given away.  The way it works, they are financed with affordable no-interest loans and purchased from Habitat at no profit. The process is repeated using the homeowners' down payment and monthly mortgage payments, which allows for other homes to be offered to people in need.

In addition to volunteer labor, each homeowner/family is required to invest some sweat equity.  In other words they have to give at least 300 hours of their own labor into building their home, the homes of others, as well as participate in other HFHCA activities.  At the end of the day it's a win, win for everybody!  Speaking of which, volunteers are always needed to help build on these homes.  The following jobs need to be filled:

Skilled or unskilled; carpenters, electricians, surveying, vinyl siding, landscaping, roofing, plumbers, food services to cook meals or donate meals for the helpers, clean up debris and extra material.

Open dates to complete Mr. Granger's home will be December 17th, December 20th thru 22nd, Dec 27th thru 29th.  Working hours will be in shifts from 8 .a.m. to 2 .p.m. and volunteers can rotate shifts or work all day.   At least 10 people a day will be needed to make the completions, but any help they can get would be appreciated. The house is located at, 1909 Jackson Street,  just between Prater and Orrin St. and across from JD Clifton School.
