I have to admit, I didn't even know Louisiana was slated to receive a new interstate, but we learn something new every day. It has been in the works for quite some time, and has even been partially started in Texas already. The thought behind the project is to join together various northern assets in Louisiana with other states such as Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Mississippi.

It's not a total go just yet, but it's getting very close. Officials in Louisiana are working hard to get the FAST Act (Fixing America's Surface Transportation) passed through the House and Congress before it expires. The act was set to expire in 2020, but with a new president, it was allowed to stay around for another year. Louisiana reps are working hard to not let that extra time go to waste.

I-14 is thought to allow the northern part of the state to open up and have an amazing amount of economic development along its path. It also could alleviate a lot of traffic along I-10 and I-20 that have to use I-10. That being said, would it begin to hurt the cities surrounding I-10 as more traffic could start moving north?

As state reps begin to move forward with this extra time to get the interstate funded, it will take a few more votes for it to truly pass. The proposed final voting to get the new interstate funded and passed will happen in September of this year.
