Lane Closures Coming to Calcasieu River Bridge in Moss Bluff

Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - Drivers who regularly travel across the Calcasieu River (Moss Bluff) Bridge should prepare for slower commutes next week as temporary lane closures are scheduled to begin in early August.

Signs have already been placed at both the northbound and southbound entrances alerting motorists that traffic will soon be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

The closures are expected to begin Monday, August 3, 2026, and continue through at least Thursday, August 6, 2026, which could lead to significant backups during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

The timing comes as many Southwest Louisiana residents are already navigating traffic changes related to construction of the new Interstate 10 Calcasieu River Bridge, adding another challenge for commuters who rely on the Moss Bluff crossing each day.

With nearly 28,000 vehicles crossing the bridge daily, even short-term lane reductions are expected to create delays. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, consider adjusting their schedules, or seek alternate routes when possible.

The Calcasieu River Bridge has been serving the region for more than five decades. The current structure opened in 1969, replacing an older wood-and-steel bridge built in 1923 that stood about a half-mile upstream.

Stretching 5,702 feet, the bridge was constructed using steel plate girders with precast concrete approach spans, creating a vital transportation link connecting Moss Bluff with Lake Charles and surrounding communities.
