Have You Seen The New Sign At The Formerly Named Civic Center In Lake Charles?

Since 1972, the building housed on the lakefront in downtown Lake Charles has been known as the Lake Charles Civic Center. The civic center has been a staple in Southwest Louisiana and Lake Charles for over 50 years.

The complex has had many events, concerts, festivals, and shows in the area over the past 50 years. Some of the biggest names in music have performed inside the coliseum at the complex like Elvis Presley, Geroge Strait, Bon Jovi, Alan Jackson, Alabama, The Judds, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, and so many other genres of music.

The grounds have also been the home of the then-named Contraband Days now known as The Pirate Festival, The Marshland Festival, and is the home of Mardi Gras Southwest Louisiana hosting the 12th night celebration, The Royal Gala, and Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-offs along with the being the starting point of all Mardi Gras Parades.

Back in October, we reported that the Lake Charles Civic Center was going to be renamed. After over 50 years of the iconic building being known as the Lake Charles Civic Center, they renamed it the Lake Charles Event Center. 

Since Hurricane Laura, the sign in front of the Civic Center/Event Center has been nothing more than a large pole as the sign on top of it was destroyed by the storms. Well, work crews have been working over the past couple of weeks to tear down the old pole and worked on putting up a new sign with the new name of the complex on it.
