I-10 Clearance Bar Fame Grows With Its Own Facebook Page
Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - We are all aware of the new I-10 bridge project that is underway and in its initial stages. The bridge is set to be replaced with a new one after being in service for over seven decades.
As the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) moves forward with ongoing construction in Westlake, several changes have been made to local exit and on-ramp configurations.

The newly constructed road and on-ramp pass underneath the I-10 bridge, but the roadway sits extremely close to the base of the bridge, making the clearance beneath the bridge limited. To prevent serious accidents and structural damage, DOTD installed a 12-foot clearance bar ahead of the underpass.

The purpose of this barrier is to stop large trucks, high-profile campers, box trucks, and 18-wheelers from attempting to pass through. The problem is that most of these truck drivers obviously don't know how high their rigs are because they continue to hit the 12-foot clearance bar, causing major damage to their trucks and damage to the clearance bar too.
Last Tuesday, the bar had to be taken down and reconstructed after yet anohter 18 wheeler hit it, and put back in place for the fourth time. That is how many trucks have hit it. It has become a running joke in Southwest Louisiana and especially on social media.
Now, a Facebook page dedicated to the I-10 Clearance Bar in Westlake, Louisiana, has been made and gone live. In less than one day, it already has almost 2000 followers. It is hilarious. Check it out here and go follow the page. You definitely will get a laugh.
