Ed Orgeron Open To Coaching at LSU Again
(KNGT-FM) - What a week it has been for Louisiana's sports teams. With all of the losses, LSU finds itself once again in the headlines after announcing that the university has moved on from Football coach Brian Kelly following the embarrassing loss Saturday night to Texas A&M.
Fans are clamoring for a few different coaches to be the next head man in Baton Rouge. On Monday, we laid out the potential coaching candidates LSU could be looking at. One name that wasn't on there was former LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron.

Orgeron coached the Tigers for six seasons and led them to a perfect 15-0 season in 2019, winning the national championship. After that, LSU went 5-6 in 2020 and 6-6 in 2021 before he and the school agreed to part ways.
The 64-year-old has not coached since leaving LSU, but he said he still has a home in Baton Rouge and loves the program.
Ed Orgeron Says "I'd Love To" When Asked About LSU Job
During an interview on ESPN’s UnSportsmanLike this week, Orgeron said he’d love the chance to coach LSU again after the school fired Brian Kelly earlier this week. “I’d love to,” Orgeron said. “Are you kidding me? I’m one phone call away. I just gotta get in my truck — I could be there today.”
Now, that is a hire that would never happen again, at least as the Head Coach of the program. But, how about as an assistant coach?
The hottest commodity in all of College Football right now is Lane Kiffin. Would Kiffin leave Ole Miss to take a job at LSU? That's the biggest question.
During the interview with ESPN, Orgeron also said he would think about joining Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss if Kiffin ends up being hired as LSU’s next coach. The two worked together before at Southern Cal. “Yeah, I’d consider it,” O said. “I love LSU. I loved coaching there for Coach Les Miles. I love the Tigers, and if I’m getting back into coaching, for sure I’d consider it.”
Orgeron was Kiffin's defensive coordinator, and the recruiting coordinator was then named interim head coach when Kiffin was fired in 2013. Orgeron served as Kiffin's associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, and defensive line coach in 2009 at Tennessee.
One thing about Ed Orgeron, he might've left LSU an utter disaster to clean up after they won the National Title in 2019, but his love for LSU and the State of Louisiana has never wavered. O will always be a Tiger through and through.
