KNGT | Lake Charles, LA — Out here in Southwest Louisiana, we’re used to coming together when it matters. And this right here… this is one of those times.

There’s a big community event coming up called Ride Towards Tomorrow, and it’s all about something a lot of folks don’t talk about enough… mental health and suicide prevention. Now here’s the cool part. This ain’t just some serious sit-down type thing. It’s active. It’s outdoors. It’s people getting together, moving, talking, and just being real with each other.

Bike Race in Lake Charles

The idea is simple. When you move your body, it helps your mind too. And when you surround yourself with good people, it makes a difference. That’s what this whole day is about. They’ve got something for everybody, no matter your pace. If you just wanna take it easy, there’s a 3-mile ruck. That’s more of a walk where you carry a little weight, and it supports mental wellness groups like With You.

Got the kids? There’s a 6-mile family ride on a closed course. No traffic, no stress. Just you, your family, and a nice ride out to a horse stable. That one sounds like a good time right there.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can jump into the 27-mile ride. That one rolls through Calcasieu Parish… rice fields, cattle, wetlands… all the stuff we see every day but don’t always slow down to enjoy.

And if you’re one of those folks that likes a challenge, they’ve got a 50-mile ride. Wide open country, long stretches, just you and the road. Now here’s my favorite part… If you’re like me some days and thinking, “Yeah… I ain’t riding all that,” they’ve got you covered too. You can sign up for the “Don’t Make Me Ride” VIP option.

That means you still show up, still support the cause, but instead of sweating it out, you can hang around the pop-up vendor market, meet folks, and talk with mental health professionals from the Bryce River Foundation. And honestly… that might be the most important part of the whole thing. Because at the end of the day, this event ain’t just about bikes. It’s about people. It’s about checking in on each other. It’s about breaking that silence that way too many folks deal with.

So if you’re looking for something to do that actually means something… this might be it. Get outside. Bring the family. Ride if you want… or don’t. Just show up.

TRAFFIC NIGHTMARES: Top 5 Lake Charles & SWLA Streets to Avoid

You know the ones we are talking about. The streets where it seems like the traffic never stops. The ones that take you 10 minutes or more to pull out of a business to merge onto the street without getting run over, or where it seems that a thousand cars are coming down the road, and you feel like you will never be able to pull out.
