When Should You Say Goodbye To The Christmas Tree
🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Christmas done come and gone, y’all. Lights are dimmin, kids are back to eatin leftovers, and somewhere in the house there’s still tinsel stuck to a sock. Happens every year. But the big question keeps poppin up right now: when are we supposed to take down the Christmas tree? We all got our own way. Some folks chunk it out the door the day after Christmas like they’re fightin for space. Others are holdin on tight thinkin “just one more night of glowin lights won’t hurt nobody.”
Well I was scrollin through Southern Living and they said this debate has been around forever. Some families don’t allow Christmas anything before Thanksgiving. No lights. No trees. Not even a jingle of Jingle Bells till that last scoop of stuffing is gone. Then you got the folks who mix it all up. You’ll see Santa sittin right next to a handprint turkey that’s still hangin from November. Every house is different.
When is 12th Night?
But here’s the part many of us forget. The story goes that you have to wait until Epiphany which falls on January 6. For some people Christmas don’t end on Christmas Day.
Now some folks take theirs down on New Year’s Eve cause they think it’s bad luck to roll into January with it still up. Can't judge. Sometimes we’re just tired and ready to sweep up the needles.
If you’re keepin yours up a bit longer make sure it stays watered. A real tree can drink like crazy. Up to a gallon in the first hour. Keep it fresh so it don’t dry up and turn into a fire hazard. Brown needles fallin like confetti? Tree smellin weird instead of piney? Branches snappin? Time to let it go.
So if that tree still glowin in your living room right now and makin you smile you got till January 6 to soak it in. No rush. Christmas joy never hurt nobody.
