Bird Flu Driving Up Turkey Prices In Louisiana For Thanksgiving
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - You might have noticed turkey prices at grocery stores in Louisiana have rocketed up around 45% - 75% more than usual.
That's because we're starting to feel the crunch from supply shortages due to the recent bird flu epidemic at turkey farms across the USA.

Lake Charles Poultry owner Sam Evans told KPLC:
The hatcheries are down to the lowest since 1985 as far as turkey counts of whole birds and I don’t see us coming out of this for the next year.

Evans went on to say locals are choosing to incorporate smaller cuts of turkey or even cheaper meats in their holiday meals this year.
He said turkeys are running around a dollar to a dollar and a half per pound more expensive this season due to the shortage.
