New Orleans Saints Release Blake Grupe And Add Former LSU Kicker To Roster
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - The New Orleans Saints have made a move a kicker, releasing Blake Grupe and signing a former LSU kicker to the roster.
Grupe went 1-for-3 in the rivalry loss to the Falcons this last Sunday. And as the saying goes, "it was the straw that broke the camel's back" for the Saints. He fell from making 87% of his field goals in 2024 to making only 69% of his field goals this season.

After cutting Grupe, the Saints tried out several free agent kickers to replace him. One of which was disgraced former Ravens kicker, Justin Tucker.
The Saints decided not to go with Tucker and instead signed a former LSU Fighting Tiger to be their next kicker.

Cade York, 24, has been an NFL journeyman kicker previously playing for the Browns, Titans, Giants, Commanders, and, most recently, the Bengals.
He played for five games with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024 and made 82% of his field goals and 93% of his extra points.
I love this move, and I hope we see the Saints sign more former Tigers in the future. These players have representing Louisiana in their blood, and they know how important football is to the fans in the Bayou State. From high school to the pros...it's a way of life and our culture.
