McDonald’s Brings Back ‘Retired’ Louisiana Favorite – Here’s When

There's a saying in Louisiana,  loin des yeaux, pres du coeur, in other parts of the country they just say "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" but it sounds so much more passionate in French, don't you think? And no matter what words you use, it's true.

The suggestion that missing something makes it that much better is not just reserved for romances and long-distance relationships. Musical performers have capitalized on the emotion as well. How many times have the Eagles retired or gone on a farewell tour? I think even George Strait keeps coming back from his "not-retirement retirement". And, let's not even get started with Brett Favre, but Brett's got other issues he's dealing with now. 

But the problem with retirement or farewell tours is this, "how can we miss you if you won't go away"? I know I said that one a lot about Brett Favre. But in the case of a lot of fast food franchises that old axiom holds true as well. Quite often a restaurant chain will pull an item saying it's gone forever only to reintroduce it a few months later.

The strategy has worked on a few items, that's for sure. I think the Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell tops my list in that regard. And last year fans of the iconic McDonald's McRib gnawed their way through what was supposed to be the sandwich's farewell tour. And like the Eagles and Brett Farve "forever" only lasted a few months.

McDonald's is Bring Back McRib

In last year's press release announcing the farewell tour for McRib McDonald's hinted that they hoped it wouldn't be "goodbye" but more of a "see you later" for the iconic sandwich. And it turns out that "See you later" will have lasted about a year because according to online reports, McRib is going to be back in your favorite Louisiana McDonald's restaurant sooner than later.

The @Snackolator site on Instagram is pretty quick with news about changes in the fast-food industry and it looks like it will be six weeks or less before you can get your boneless pork shoulder smothered and simmered in sauce and spices served with onions and pickles on that elongated roll that really holds that sauce so well.

The McRib has been an on-again-off-again favorite of McDonald's customers since 1980 when it was introduced. The sandwich and its availability have been the focus of many an internet site and fan page. There's even a McRib Locator page that fans of the sandwich can use to track its whereabouts around the country.

I guess fans of the sandwich should start saving their appetite now. Oh, and stock up on some extra napkins. You'll need extra napkins with a McRib.
