
Louisiana’s Largest Park Set to Open in Vidalia
VIDALIA, La. (KMDL-FM) - A major new attraction is coming to Northeast Louisiana as the city of Vidalia prepares to unveil what will be the largest park in the state. The new park will be a massive recreational space designed to bring families, athletes, and visitors together.

The city of Vidalia in Concordia Parish has spent several years planning and developing an major state park designed to serve both locals and visitors. In fact, it's such a major state project that it will be the largest one in Louisiana.
Vidalia Mayor Buz Craft tells WAFB -
Vidalia is a special place and we want families to come together in our community. A lot of people say, well, it should be academics first and it should, but your athletic programs for your schools is where communities come together.

Officials say the project has been in the works for four to seven years, with the goal of creating a destination that encourages community engagement and outdoor activity. Once completed, the park is expected to significantly boost tourism and quality of life in the region.

Polk Park To Include Playground, Splash Pads, and Sports Facilities
The new park will offer a wide range of amenities for all ages, making it one of the most versatile state parks in Louisiana.
The new Vidalia state park will include a 24,000-square-foot playground, interactive splash pads, an expanded pond area, fitness center, multiple sports courts, including tennis, basketball, and pickleball.
The park is part of the broader expansion of the city’s recreational complex, commonly known as Polk Park, which already includes walking trails, ball fields, and community gathering spaces according to cityofvidaliala.com.
Safety and Community Engagement Are Top Priorities
Vidalia chief of police Joey Merrill tells WAFB safety will be a key focus "It’s going to be a nice park. We want to keep it that way, but we want to also keep it safe."

Mayor Buz Craft says they hope to have the official ribbon cutting to open the new park mid-April, 2026.
