Ja Rule Addresses Fyre Festival Disaster on New Track “F.Y.R.E.”: Listen
Ja Rule's new album 12.Twelve.XII was pushed back from its original release date of Dec. 13 to Feb. 29, the rapper's birthday. In place of the new album, the Queens MC released a new single called "F.Y.R.E." from the upcoming LP where he addresses the whole Fyre Festival debacle.
The song samples Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick's classic track, "The Show." It finds Ja explaining his side of the festival, which promised A-list acts and fun in the sun only to be canceled at the last minute with additional complaints about the substandard food and housing.
"We on fire tonight," Ja yells at the beginning of the track before rolling into the verses.
"For your real entertainment, I'm 'bout to tell you how that shit went down from the horses mouth/With no D.A. or plaintiffs, but in the people's court, baby, they'll hang you like they ancestors," Ja raps, before going on to explain how things went downhill. "Hotter than the sun, but it wasn't that/Show of hands if you got your money back?/Just playing, I got sued for that/$100 mil to be exact/I know you lack empathy for the one that's me/But I too was bamboozled and led astray."
Ja promoted the single in the caption. "For Your Real Entertainment...Fyre..New album release date LEAP YEAR!!! Until then Have fun!!! love y’all... Rule❤️ 12.Twelve.XII," he wrote.
In the comments he added, "I’m still working on the album it’s coming out dope... be patient wit me I’m working on a lot!!! Feb. 29 new date my bday."
Ja's name will forever be attached to the disaster that was the failed Fyre Festival in 2017. He was one of the people who backed and promoted the showcase, which was supposed to be held on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma. The festival was a complete failure and never even took place after it was revealed that lead festival organizer, Billy McFarland, had extremely underestimated what it would take to put on a festival of that magnitude and in some cases committed fraud to get the festival put on. McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for wire fraud in October 2018.
Ja has maintained his innocence of any wrong doing surrounding the festival. Last month, he was dismissed from a $100 million lawsuit brought forth against festival organizers.
