Ja Rule Leads Rally Protesting NYC Public Housing Standards

Queens' own Ja Rule led a New York City protest to speak out against the state's public housing standards on Tuesday (Feb. 20).

The 41-year-old took shots specifically at state officials, “The mayor, the governor, they should all be ashamed of themselves. These are Americans, New Yorkers living in Third World conditions, and it should not be this way."

The "Always On Time" artist continued, “How can the kids go to school and get a good education when they come home and there’s not heat and no water? If you can’t think straight at school, your mind can’t—we have to start right here."

“Let’s shut the city down. We ain’t paying no more rent until these situations are dealt with,” said Ja Rule. Before finishing off his speech, Ja got those in attendance pumped up and chanting, “No heat, no hot water? No money, no rent."

An estimated 143,000 apartments were without hot water and heat at some point between October 2017 through January, according to The New York Times. The publication also estimated that about 80 percent of New York City Housing Authority residents lost heat or hot water at some point during this winter season.

The Pain Is Love artist hasn't been shy about churning out headlines, as he recently kicked off more beef with 50 Cent and was charged with fraud for last year's Fyre Festival in the Bahamas.
