Judge Upset After JAY-Z is A No-Show in Federal Court
JAY-Z was expected to appear in court on Tuesday (May 8) to testify in an investigation into the Iconix Brand Group but he was a no-show.
According to CNBC, U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe, who is handling the case, was very upset over Hov’s absence. "This testimony has been delayed for five months and I do not intend to tolerate any more delays,” he reportedly said.
This is the third time JAY-Z has ignored a subpoena to testify in The Securities and Exchange Commission’s investigation in his involvement with Iconix Brand Group, who he sold his Rocawear apparel collection for $204 million a decade ago. The SEC believes that federal securities laws were violated in Iconix's financial reporting. Jay maintains that he has no knowledge of Iconix Brand's business dealings and he should not be involved in the matter.
On Monday (May 8), attorneys for the Roc Nation mogul filed an affidavit stating that he is rehearsing in California for his "On the Run II" world tour and can only answer questions for one day only. His lawyers argued that any additional testimony will impede the ongoing work on the trek.
JAY-Z is expected to appear before the SEC in Washington, D.C., on Friday (May 11) so we'll see if that happens or not.
