Singer/actress Jill Scott has been cast as Lady Eve in the upcoming CW drama Black Lightning. The project, which is helmed by Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil, Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV, is about the popular D.C. superhero and Scott will play one of his arch-villains.

Black Lightning was created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, and the series will center on Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) who gave up his life as a superhero years ago, but now his daughter, Jennifer, could be recruited by a local gang. So Pierce reassumes the mantle of avenging vigilante Black Lightning.

As part of the Kobra Cult in the comics, Lady Eve is the owner of a funeral parlor who becomes a nemesis to Black Lightning. can be traced back to the Kobra Cult in comic lore.

Jill Scott has been doing her thing on the screen for years. She notably starred in the HBO series The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married films, the rom-com Baggage Claim and in the James Brown biopic Get On Up.
