Lafayette Mayor-President Guillory Calls For Cancellation of All Mass Public Gatherings Through Sunday, March 15, 2020
Due to the on-going spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Louisiana, out of an abundance of caution Mayor-President Josh Guillory has decided to call for the suspension of all public gatherings through Sunday, March 15, 2020. This will include all public meetings, events, programming and extra-curricular activities in an effort to curb the potential spread of the virus. These suspensions include, but or not limited to, the UDC Replacement Committee, all programming at the Public Libraries, scheduled activities at Public Parks, and Downtown Alive.
While there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lafayette Parish, after careful consideration and consultation with public health officials, local mayors, and community leaders, Mayor-President Guillory made the decision to ensure the continued safety of the citizens of the City and Parish of Lafayette. “We will continue to stay on top of the COVID-19 threat, and we will always make the decisions that are in the best interests of our community. Our main goal is to minimize the spread of this virus and prevent community spread,” said Guillory.
LCG officials will continue to monitor the on-going situation and will adjust these closures as necessary.
