Why Are People Homeless?

The truth is, there are many reasons people can become homeless. One thing is for sure, it's not because that's what they want. No one wants to live on the street, out of their car, or in a shelter. Homelessness can happen to all of us, regardless of our social status or current financial standing.

Did you know 59% of Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness? All it takes is a traumatic event for everything to fall apart. The main reasons are:

  • The lack of affordable housing
  • The loss of a job
  • Failing health / a devastating injury
  • Breakdown of the family
  • Domestic violence
  • Addiction

A catastrophic weather event can take your home and job simultaneously. The sudden death of a loved one. These are all real-life issues that happen to everyday people like you and me.

Why Should I Care About Homelessness?

Because it can happen to anyone. None of us are immune. Homelessness impacts our community's crime, safety, healthcare resources, taxes, and our workforce. It has a ripple effect throughout the community. It benefits all of us to break the cycle of homelessness, one person, one family at a time.

What Could I Do To Help?

Let's try to find a solution together. Holy Ground Homeless Outreach GIM (God Inspired Ministries) is hosting a one-hour community meeting and free lunch to come together and talk about the homeless and human tracking problem in Southwest Louisiana.
