An unspeakable tragedy occurred Wednesday evening when a Lake Charles resident was killed by a fallen electric pole. The gentleman reportedly had just attended a local meeting and was sitting in his truck at the time of the accident. According to Sgt. Scott Dougherty, with the Lake Charles Police Department, has confirmed, that the unidentified victim was not in transit. The authorities said his vehicle was parked on Church Street.

Sgt. Dougherty stated that the victim had entered his vehicle minutes before the pole fell at roughly 8 pm. It's unclear as to whether the pole was on Church or Bank Streets prior to it collapsing. However, the tragic incident is currently under investigation to learn more about what made to pole fall in the first place. Sgt. Dougherty seems to believe the bad weather and strong winds could have been a contributing factor.

Wednesday evening Calcasieu Parish was among several Parishes in the state that was reportedly under a tornado watch and when the pole snapped winds were high in the area. KPLC reports the LCPD officer indicated that he thought the high winds broke the pole and caused it to fall on the victim's truck, crushing the cab and killing the poor man inside.

Entergy is reportedly doing an independent investigation into the matter. Watch your local news for updates on this story.
