LCPD Make 4 Arrests In Connection With Shooting Near McNeese
Lake Charles Police Department have reportedly arrested 4 men in connection with the September 6 shooting near McNeese State University. Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said their ongoing investigation revealed that the shooting was, “a retaliation for an earlier armed robbery.” Unfortunately, 3 of the suspects are freshmen defensive backs for the MSU football team. Those players are, 18-year old Lathan A. Adams, of Waxahachie, Tx. and 18-year old Edward E. Gilds of Harvey, La. were both arrested in connection with the shooting.
The other two suspects, 19-year old Davonte' Simmons, of Westwego, and MSU's 18-year old Travis L. Walker, of Kenner were taken into custody and charged with criminal possession. LCPD executed a search warrant of an apartment complex on McNeese Street and discovered drug paraphernalia, multiple firearm's, ammunition and drugs. Deputy Chief Fondel warned additional warrants were issued due to evidence recovered from the search.
Deeply disturbed, McNeese State University Athletics Director Heath Schroyer, issued the following statement regarding school athletes being involved:
Today, I was extremely disappointed to learn that three of our football players were arrested and charged with criminal offenses. All three players have been suspended indefinitely by the Athletic Department.
Fondel told KPLC Lake Charles SWAT and MSU Police Department, coordinated in the arrests of Adams and Gilds Tuesday afternoon without incident.
