Lloyd returns to the R&B scene with a vintage visual for his heartfelt single, “Tru."

Originally released in May, the track follows the singer's 2012 mixtape, The Playboy Diaries Vol. 1. The Georgia-bred crooner released this grainy clip to illustrate his humbling struggles--with his fans and family in mind. On the guitar-laced track he lays it all out, singing, “I lost it all, my friends, my loved ones/ But in life there’s always a chance to grow/ From the struggle, from the pain, from the realness/ Here’s my story, Lloyd."

After rising to prominence in the mid-2000s via the bounce-heavy single, "Get It Shawty" and the Lil Wayne-assisted "I Want You" (and it's remix featuring Andre 3000 and Nas) from 2007's Street Love, Lloyd released two other full-length albums, 2008's Lessons in Love and King of Hearts in 2011. However, aside from a mixtape and a couple of loose singles, hasn't released much music. His latest single comes on the heels of his announcement earlier this summer that he's inked a distribution deal with Empire Records.

"Tru" offers a down-to-earth narrative of what life has been like for singer during his time away. Lloyd explains the struggles of helping raise his niece and taking care of his mother to the best of his abilities (while not being able to have a family of his own). He also touches on the stresses of dealing with lawsuits and apologizes to fans for his absence.

The track’s guitar strings paired with his passionate vocals are reminiscent of the singer’s Street Love sound. Produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, the track is an honest and welcome return. Lloyd is currently working on a new EP slated for a tentative 2017 release. In the meantime, check out the video for “Tru” above.
