Lake Charles has truly been through a lot over the past year. It all started with the pandemic and the loss of businesses and clientele, and too many losses of loved ones because of the dreadful disease. Fast- forward to August, and we received another devastating blow with Hurricane Laura. Then, less than two months later, along came another blow with Hurricane Delta.

Many are homeless or have had to relocate in order to try and get back on their feet. I have personally had issues with getting my insurance company to step up to the plate and have had to pay out of pocket for many of my repairs. That is why I hate to see something like fraud being done to hard working people trying to get back on their feet.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's office received a complaint to a possible contractor fraud case. During the investigation, the victim said they signed a contract with David L Babcock of Bush, Louisiana to perform some work, for which they initially paid him $30,000. While he did start, the victim stated work hasn't been completed. When questioned about it, investigators say Babcock admitted he hadn't finished the work. He was arrested on March 25 but was released on the following day on $4,500 bond set by Judge Tony Fazzio.

When there is a situation like this, it makes it hard for us to have faith in reliable individuals. Don't allow yourself to be a victim. If you would like to get more information on how to keep yourself safe, visit Louisianalawhelp.org. You'll be able to find the answers you need in order to find a reputable contractor for your work.
