Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flocka Flame and More Speak Out Against New Anti-Abortion Laws

Hip-hop artists like Lupe Fiasco and Waka Flocka Flame are not happy about Alabama and Georgia's over-restrictive anti-abortion bills that were recently signed into law.

Earlier this week (May 15), Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed HB 314 into law, which is being described as the most extreme anti-abortion laws in the country. Soon after the ink dried, rappers like Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flocka Flame, J.I.D and more vocalized their thoughts on the matter.

"I think abortion is the decision of the mother," Lupe wrote in an Instagram post last night (May 16). "I think to value the quantity of life over the quality of life is misguided. I think the state should play a role but should remain neutral. I think if your not going to take care of a child then you should not have one but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to kill it. I think you should use contraception at all times unless you are planning to have a child. I think rapists should summarily be put to death."

According to CNN, HB 314 restricts doctors from performing any abortion procedures within state lines. If caught, doctors can be charged with up to 99 years in prison for simply performing an abortion. The only exceptions to the law are in cases when the unborn child is a dire health risk for the mother, ectopic pregnancies and if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly." The Alabama House passed the bill earlier this month and is way more extreme than Georgia's fetal heartbeat bill, which bans abortion after a heartbeat is detected.

"Sad we living in a era where laws don’t really help the everyday American. I swa ladies I’m praying for y’all. #ProtectOurWomen But #KeepYallLegsClosed," Waka Flocka wrote on Twitter last night (May 16). "We should pass a bill that rapist get the death penalty."
