How Second Harvest Food Bank Is Fighting Hunger in Louisiana

Second Harvest Food Bank combats hunger in South Louisiana by providing food, advocacy, education, and disaster response. If you or a senior you know needs help, sign up for the Senior Commodity Box Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP.)

Partnering with over 500 organizations across 23 parishes, Second Harvest distributes more than 40 million meals annually to over 290,000 people. For other Makin' Groceries Mobile Market locations click HERE to see the December 2024 calendar.

One in five Louisiana households faces the threat of hunger, with rising costs for food, housing, and utilities leaving many families in need. As unemployment and low-wage jobs persist, more families are turning to emergency food assistance for the first time. Parents often skip meals to ensure their children are fed.

Through food distribution, meal services, nutrition education, and benefits assistance, Second Harvest is creating pathways out of poverty. By rescuing millions of pounds of food each year, the organization ensures that thousands of struggling families have meals on their tables.
