The McNeese Men's and Women's basketball teams are back in action this Saturday, taking on Southland Conference rival Northwestern State.

The Cowgirls (1-7) fought hard with a depleted team due to injury and got their first win of the season to kick off conference play with a bang. They jumped out to an early lead and never let up to beat the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears 59-45 last Saturday. The Lady Demons come into this weekend's contest with an 0-6 overall record 0-1 in conference play. The Cowgirls tip off at 1:00pm at the Burton Coliseum.

The Cowboys (6-4) didn't fare so well, as they lost their first home game this season and fell to 0-2 in conference play. The Pokes were also depleted by injury and COVID-19. The team's star player, Mississippi State transfer KeyShawn Feazell, was out due to COVID-19 protocol. He's averaged 13 points and 13 rebounds this season and is a force in the post for the Cowboys.

Coach Heath Schroyer said:

Not having KeyShawn really hurt us. He's one of the top rebounders in the country. We got beat on the glass by 15 so you would think that he would've cleaned up a few of those.

The Pokes were bullied all game long in the post and didn't have an answer for the speed and size of Central Arkansas, falling 81-67.

The Northwestern Demons come into this weekend's game with a 1-11 overall record and 0-1. The Cowboys tip off at 4:00pm.

The first 2,000 fans to both games will receive free tickets.
