Things were totally different this year when it came to college football national signing day. yesterday, as most of it was done virtually, even the announcement from McNeese football head coach Frank Wilson.

The athletic department and coach Wilson announced McNeese signed 11 players to the squad, and what is really cool is that all 11 players are from Louisiana, with two from right here in Southwest Louisiana.

The two players from the Southwest Louisiana area are quarterback Dillon Simon out of Lake Charles College Prep and Westlake native and defensive lineman Eli Goss, who transferred to South Beauregard to play his senior year.

In the 11 players they signed yesterday, two are quarterbacks. One is Simon who we mentioned above but they also signed Mandeville quarterback Devon Tott. McNeese football said the signing of these two QBs gave the football program two of the top quarterback signees in Louisiana.

They also said they are hoping to actually sign 12 players total, and they advised that they are looking to sign another offensive player in the next few days.

Unfortunately, the McNeese football program had to postpone the 2020 fall football season due to the pandemic, but look to resume the season in the spring of 2021. The season is slated to kickoff on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Tarleton University.

The first home game for the Pokes is set for Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Cowboy Stadium against Incarnate Word. Currently, the Cowboys have seven games on the schedule for the spring football campaign. Let's just hope it will happen and we will have football back in Lake Charles on Saturday nights.
