Yesterday, I told you about the great Juneteenth parade that will be happening this Saturday. However, there are more great events to celebrate the acclaimed holiday.

It all starts this Friday at the beginning of the Juneteenth Freedom Festival with the Black Excellence Awards. This event is an evening where local leaders of the community will be recognized for the good they do in the community. The event will be at 949 Ryan Street beginning at 7:00pm this Thursday night.

On Friday, get ready for Movies Under the Stars with a showing of the movie Soul starring Jamie Foxx. It will be outside at the SWLA Center for Health Services 2000 Opelousas Street beginning at 5:00pm. This will be a great event for the entire family.

On Saturday June 19, there will be an all-day event of things that will have something to offer for everyone. It all starts with the free Dental Day from 8:00am-12:00pm at the SWLA Center for health services location. The Juneteenth parade kicks off at 1:00pm with lineup at 11:00am. Then at 6:00pm, there will be a huge fireworks display outside at the Lake Charles Civic Center, which is always a feast for the eyes. After that, the day will close with the annual Cotton Club event inside The Paramount Room from 9:30pm-1:00am.

LOOK: Here are the biggest HBCUs in America

More than 100 historically Black colleges and universities are designated by the U.S. Department of Education, meeting the definition of a school "established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans."

StudySoup compiled the 20 largest historically Black colleges and universities in the nation, based on 2021 data from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. Each HBCU on this list is a four-year institution, and the schools are ranked by the total student enrollment.
