Rick Ross Defends Kodak Black, Says Rapper Wouldn’t Disrespect Nipsey Hussle
Rick Ross is standing by Kodak Black, despite his prior comments about Lauren London in the wake of Nipsey Hussle's passing.
During an interview with L.A. radio station Real 92.3's Big Boy's Neighborhood on Wednesday (July 31), the topic of Kodak came up. Ross was asked whether he'd had any conversations with the young rapper following Kodak's comments earlier this year that he'd give Nipsey's girlfriend, Lauren London—the mother of Nipsey's son, Kross— a year to grieve the death of Nipsey and then he'd reach out to her himself. He explained he hadn't spoken with Kodak, but he still didn't have an issue.
"Nah, no I didn't. By the time it got to me, they told me what it was," Ross said. "I got some homies that's close to Kodak and they said the energy—of course homie ain't mean no true disrespect."
He went on to elaborate further, blaming any off-kilter comments Kodak may make on the drugs he takes.
"Me knowing Kodak, I know that Tussionex and that lean will have you say some things and you may hear it a few days later and really realize what it was," Rozay said. "But me knowing Kodak, I know he respect the streets. I know he wouldn't disrespect Nipsey Hussle."
Rappers like T.I. and The Game spoke out against Kodak following his comments on London during an Instagram Live stream shortly after Nipsey's passing. It created a brief back-and-forth between Kodak and Tip, which included Tip removing Kodak's picture from his Trap Museum in Atlanta. L.A. radio station Power 106 also banned Kodak's music amid the controversy, and fans even held a vigil for Nipsey outside of Kodak's show in Norfolk, Va. in April.
