According to McNeese Sports the Cowboys came into the NCAA Tournament with one mission—handle business. And that’s exactly what they did. The 12th-seeded Cowboys stunned the No. 5 Clemson Tigers in a thrilling 69-67 victory, securing the program’s first-ever March Madness win in its 52-year history as a Division I team. While the final score made it look close, McNeese controlled the game, proving they belonged on the national stage.
With the victory, McNeese advances to the Round of 32, where they will take on No. 1 seed Purdue on Saturday for a shot at the Sweet 16. The Cowboys are riding high on a 12-game winning streak, now boasting an impressive 28-6 record.
This historic win also marks McNeese’s first-ever victory over a ranked opponent and their first triumph against an ACC team. Head coach Will Wade notched his 50th career win with the Cowboys, leading his squad to a performance that had the entire basketball world taking notice.
To commemorate this achievement, Grammy-nominated Zydeco star and Lake Charles native, Sean Ardoin, has released a new anthem titled "Dem Cowboys Comin'." This energetic track captures the spirit and excitement surrounding the Cowboys' historic run.
Let's come together to support our Cowboys and keep the momentum going! McNeese’s dominant play started early, as they built a commanding 31-13 lead in the first half—one of the best defensive performances by a lower-seeded team in modern NCAA Tournament history.
Brandon Murray led the charge with a season-high 21 points, while Quadir Copeland added 16 and Christian Shumate secured his 40th career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Despite Clemson’s late push, McNeese never wavered, sealing the victory with clutch free throws down the stretch.
Southwest Louisiana, it’s time to rally behind our Cowboys! Let’s keep the energy alive by downloading Sean Ardoin’s electrifying new anthem, "Dem Cowboys Comin'," and showing the world that McNeese is here to make history!
