Shaggy Returns and Is Up to His Old Tricks on Sade Serena’s ‘Dum’ Remix
Shaggy is back to his old antics in the remix of Sade Serena's "Dum."
The original track, which samples Sister Nancy’s classic 1982 dancehall song “Bam Bam,” premiered earlier this month. In it, Serena sings about not being taken for a fool in her love life.
So it's only right that she enlist Shaggy, who's known for the infamous hit song about cheating "It Wasn't Me," in the remix.
"Growing up I have always looked up to Shaggy and other Reggae artist like Sean Paul and Elephant Man that paved their way into mainstream success," said Serena in an interview with Billboard. "To have a diamond-selling artist like Shaggy on my record is a dream come true for me."
The track also has some talent behind the words, with Grammy Award-winning producer J Vibe.
Serena criticizes Shaggy for not remaining monogamous and for being down in the DMs on Instagram. But she's not too far from the lifestyle herself.
“I don’t really care who you lovin’ / as long as you wear a wrapper / I know that we’re just having some fun,” she sings in the first verse. “You can do what you want to / But baby I would hate to Sam Smith you / You know you’re not the only one / You must think that I’m dumb," she sings.
The song appears on Sade's latest EP, Jerk Sauce, which dropped last Friday (March 25). In an interview with HelloBeautiful.com, she described her sound “as young fresh R&B sound mixed with a twist of pop and island vibe.”
