What Do You Think Louisiana? Should A Wife Share Her Husbands Inheritance With His Mother?
Here's a loaded question. Should a woman share her husband's inheritance with her mother-in-law? There is a backstory, so don't take the question at face value just yet. I'll give you my answer at the end of this post.
This is a real question. A woman went to social media, Reddit, and other platforms earlier today looking for clarity from other users. Boy, did she get it! Spoiler alert: she doesn't feel like she should give her mother-in-law a dime. Here is an excerpt of what she wrote:
"My husband lost his father recently and when he did my husband and his brother never saw so much as a dime from his inheritance. His wife (my MIL) is still living and collected EVERYTHING. My husband’s grandfather (the deceased’s father) has since then said that he will be rewriting his will and testament to reflect such changes,"
The woman continued, My MIL made the comment yesterday that if he writes her out of the will (since his son is gone and that was his only relation to my MIL) “that’s fine you guys will just have to share with me.”
She asked, "Am I mean for thinking that if that ends up being the case I really just don’t want to give her that much. She has a paid off home, car, 401k and everything she needs and we’re young and married and starting a family and have student debt.
She said that she didn't think it was cool for her mother-in-law to expect anything. Then she asked Reddit followers, "What would be the appropriate way to determine what percentage she deserves from her two kids?"
HERE IS MY TAKE ON THE QUESTION
I most certainly agree with the majority of responses. She isn't entitled to anything! Further, it's not the wife's money either. It's her husband's money. So, however, whoever he decides to give money to is his decision. Period! As for his mother, she is entitled to ZERO PERCENT of her son's inheritance from his grandfather.
