SNAP Benefits Going Up in Louisiana Due to Covid
Folks who get SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits in Louisiana will be getting a little more federal assistance this year.
Legislation recently passed which will boost the payments for the first half of this year.
Income people are getting from federal unemployment and stimulus payments will not count toward total income for determining eligibility.
SNAP benefits will be going up by about 15% through June of this year because of the pandemic. Recipients will see the extra money loaded onto SNAP cards on Friday, January 8.
These increases dollars are in direct response to the need for food assistance across our state and country. Food Banks have been seeing an unprecedented request for services and cars have lined up for miles at food distribution events across the nation.
All households will now be up to the maximum benefit allowed for the household size.
The amount someone gets depends on how many people live in the home and the net income.
