SZA’s long-awaited debut album Ctrl has been a hit with fans but according to the singer, if she had her way, it may've been something entirely different.

Speaking with The Guardian, SZA said the album was released without her approval after the bosses at her record label, TDE, cut her off and forced her to released the project.

“They just took my hard drive from me,” the singer said. “I just kept f---ing everything up. I just kept moving s--- around. I was choosing from 150, 200 songs, so I’m just like, who knows what’s good any more?”

SZA revealed she doesn’t know who took the hard drive and said the critically-acclaimed album fans have today isn’t necessarily the album she would have released.

“Give me another month and it would have been something completely different,” she said.

Fortunately for fans and the singer, TDE had the vision to give her the push she needed, as CTRL is one of the most critically-acclaimed release of the year. And good news for fans, SZA says with debut album jitters out the way, she's ready to put out a new project faster.

“I have less anxiety about the things that hindered me putting this album out, so I’ll probably be done in the next six months.”

The singer is just a few weeks away from embarking on her 44-date Ctrl Tour, where she will be joined by Smino and Ravyn Lenae as she makes stops in Brooklyn, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Houston and more. Check out the tour dates below.
