Texas Woman Arrested for Not Wearing Mask
Once Governor Abbot of Texas announced he was dropping the mask mandate and was opening things back up, I knew it was only a matter of time before some drama would pop off. Sure, the Texas residents no longer have to wear masks, but that doesn't stop some businesses from still requiring them on their property.
Last week, a Galveston woman was asked to wear a mask inside a business but decided she didn't want to do it. She was politely escorted to the back of a patrol car for not following the rules. Check out the video below of the encounter.
I truly got upset after watching this video. One of the main reasons is that a Black man or woman could have ended up in a worse situation if this would have been them in the video. Sure, people are tired of hearing that, but it is true. A business has the right to accept or refuse customers for whatever reason, and this didn't have to go this far.
The pandemic has not left. There may be a decline, but it is still among us. I'll echo others and say that I want to get back to normal. I am tired of wearing a mask, but I do it to protect others and myself. When a business asks that you wear your mask when entering their business, to me it is no different then someone asking you to remove your shoes before entering their home.
We still have a lot of work to do and a long way to get there, but we have to do better. This is not the way to make that happen.
