The Best Pizza In SWLA

We all ate a lot of takeout and delivery last year, but I have to say I’m surprised at what we ordered the most.

According to a new study, the most popular type of takeout and delivery food in the U.S. last year was Chinese. Worldwide, the most popular option was pizza, but in the U.S., that was second.

I like Chinese food a lot, but I must say I have a special place in my heart for pizza. I am half Italian by the way, so pizza sauce is in my blood. I thought I would find out where SWLA gets their pizza fix. But before we do that, let’s review my favorite local pizza parlors.

Mikey O’s Top 5 Pizza Restaurants in SWLA:

  1. Pizza Artista
  2. Tony’s Pizza
  3. Mellow Mushroom
  4. Mr. Gatti’s
  5. Little Caesars

Let’s take a deeper dive into my list. You can’t beat the variety you can get from Pizza Artista, and their ingredients are fresh. As for Tony’s, what else do I have to say? But I will say their marinara is hands down the best in SWLA. Not only are the pizzas tasty and very inventive at Mellow Mushroom, but you can’t beat eating a pie right by a Transformer. Mr. Gatti’s gets my vote for the freshest tasting pizza on the list. And last but not least, Little Caesars. You can’t beat their pizza at that price point, and you’re in and out with their hot-and-ready pizzas.

So SWLA, where are you getting your pizza fix? I looked at several sources to find the answer.

Trip Advisor’s Top 5 Pizza Restaurants in SWLA:

  1. Tony’s Pizza
  2. Pizza Artista
  3. Rotolo’s
  4. Mellow Mushroom
  5. Stonefired Pizzeria

Yelp’s Top 5 Pizza Restaurants in SWLA:

  1. Crust Pizza Co.
  2. Pizza Artista
  3. Crying Eagle Brewery
  4. Tony’s Pizza
  5. Stonefired Pizzeria

Zomato’s Top 5 Pizza Restaurants in SWLA:

  1. Tony’s Pizza
  2. Rotolo’s Pizza
  3. Fox’s Pizza Den
  4. Papa John’s
  5. Pizza Hut

If you average out all these lists, I think the overwhelming favorite pizza joint in SWLA is Tony’s Pizza, and for good reason. I know when my wife sees my list, she will remark how I should’ve ranked Tony’s first, as she’s a die hard fan. One more thing to note: I worked in Sulphur for years and the Zomato list reminded me of the great times I had at Fox’s Pizza Den. Not only are the owners very nice people, but the pizza and cheese sticks are also to die for. I’m going to have to give Fox’s Pizza Den an honorable mention on my list.
