The Teeniest, Tiniest Towns in Louisiana—Where You’ll Meet All the Locals in One Trip to the Gas Station
Louisiana is known for its larger-than-life personalities, big flavors, and even bigger parties (we see you, Mardi Gras). But not every town in the Bayou State is bustling with people. In fact, some of these places are so small, that the town meeting could be held in a golf cart. For real!
From nearly ghost towns to hidden gems where everyone knows your name (and probably your business), here are Louisiana’s smallest towns and villages—ranked from Crowded to Who There?
#10 – Jordan Hill, LA – Population 180
If you think a town of 4,000 (Winnfield) is small, meet its “suburb,” Jordan Hill. With only 65 residents, it’s the kind of place where your dog might be the town’s unofficial mayor.
#9 – Oak Ridge, LA – Population 124
Oak Ridge might be tiny, but it has a big claim to fame: It’s the hometown of LSU Hall of Famer Abner Wimberly, who went on to play for the Green Bay Packers. Small town, big dreams!
#8– Gilliam, LA – Population 123
Gilliam, located in Caddo Parish, may be small, but it throws one heck of a party. The annual Sunflower Festival turns this tiny town into a buzzing hotspot. For a day, it feels like half of Louisiana shows up just to admire the flowers and grab some good eats.
#7 – Downsville, LA – Population 120
Downsville used to have around 140 people back in 2010, but folks must’ve decided the “down” in Downsville wasn’t working for them. Now, just over 100 people remain, enjoying the quiet life in this Union Parish village.
#6 – Robeline, LA – Population 117
Once upon a time, in the late 1800s, Robeline was a thriving town with its own newspaper and nearly 700 residents. These days, it's more of a history lesson than a booming metropolis. But hey, at least there’s no traffic.
#5 – Bryceland, LA – Population 87
Bryceland may not have a booming economy, but it does have the famous “Bryceland Mall.” Don’t get too excited, though—it’s a single convenience store. Still, it’s got snacks, and that’s what matters.
#4– Mount Lebanon, LA – Population 66
Rumor has it that Mount Lebanon is the oldest settlement in Bienville Parish. With a population of 72, you could probably gather every resident for a group photo and still fit everyone in the frame.
#3 – Taft, LA – Population 61 Taft is one of those places where census numbers seem more like suggestions. Some sources claim Taft has no residents at all, while others say it has 59. Either way, it’s quiet. Real quiet.
#2 – Bayou Corne, LA – Population 32
Bayou Corne had over 300 residents in 2010, but when a massive sinkhole swallowed part of the area in 2012, most folks packed up and never came back. These days, it's got more alligators than people.
#1 – Mound, LA – Population 12
Yes, you read that right. Three. People. That’s not a neighborhood, that’s a carpool. Mound had 19 residents back in 2010, but by 2020, the population dwindled down to a trio. At this point, if one more person moves, it’ll be a 33% population increase.
